CCR - Music Video

Image
How Does Your Product Use or Challenge Conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? In my music video, my product used typical conventions by portraying a literal representation of the song in certain scenes - a common attribute of music videos. For example, in the song used in our product - Attracted To You by PinkPantheress, when it reaches the lines “Sometimes I think of calling you up/To make myself look bad again/But now I’m bringing flowers to your front door,” the scene I filmed depicted these lyrics. The scene that played during these lyrics included me - as the actor of the character in the music video - on the phone attempting to call the other character while walking towards the camera with flowers in my hand. However, my music video also challenges conventions as it does not have any instruments on screen being played in the video. Often in music videos, the band is on screen lip syncing while playing the instruments or acting as if they are playing t...

The Final Product

Image
I am so happy that this music video came together, despite it not being identical to our original vision. I know there are a number of things that I could have improved, but I am proud of what we have. I'm also excited for what the next project can bring. I definitely know that I have learned a lot since the last project and can't wait to see what I can do with the next. Until next time!

Sometimes Things Don't Go As Planned

Image
Hey everyone! Today is yet another production blog, but our final one. The final step is finally here. Last time, I left off by mentioning that I almost entirely finished the editing process. While this was true, after some revision, I came to understand that I had some more editing to do due to a number of issues. To begin with, some of the filming was rather shaky. While this is not something I could quite fix at this point, I knew that by fading out the ending of the video more, it may help to stabilize it. Moreover, some of the transitions were certainly choppy, though I wasn't sure what else I could do to adjust them.        After watching a couple video on editing transitions, I believed I may have had a better understanding and went back to revise the transition. With that done, it was now time to film the initial scene that would be need to match the length of the video to the song. Once this new clip was inserted, the audio was able to sy...

Editing Is Harder Than It Looks

Image
Hey guys! Welcome back to another production blog. In my last post, I told you guys about the software I was going to be using to edit the video and my process in picking out each clip for the scenes. Well today, I'll be picking up right where I left off and talk all about how I went about combining the clips into one video.       Once I had imported all the individual clips onto Capcut as one video, it was time to figure out the transitions. I do not have much experience when it comes to editing, despite me thoroughly enjoying it, and essentially play around with the settings until I reach a product I believe is visually pleasing and meets the requirements. I knew some of the scenes were choppy and thus quickly understood that the video would certainly not go as I had originally planned. While I was disappointed to come to this realization, I powered through and edited transitions to fit the vision I had as much as possible. For majority of the s...

The Editing Begins

Image
Welcome back to production blog number 4! In my last blog, I discussed the final filming day for the music video. Which means that the next step was editing the clips.       To begin this process, the clips that we wanted to include in the final product had to be retrieved. Since there were multiple takes for the same scene, this meant we would have to watch through each and every recording to find the best version. With the scenes now chosen, I had to transfer them from the SD card to the computer. This proved difficult as my personal laptop doesn't have a slot that allows for SD cards to be read. As a result of this obstacle, the editing process was drawn out longer than it should have been, placing us slightly behind schedule. Nevertheless, I managed to borrow an SD card reader and began the transferring process. Moving them from the camera's folders to my own, I had to ensure each clip I had decided to include was correctly and safely transfer...

The Final Filming Day

Image
Hey everyone, welcome back to another production blog!      Our last filming day was on Saturday, December 3rd. The last few scenes depicted in the storyboard that had yet to be filmed took place in the car and directly outside the car. The car scenes were saved for last because we had to be sure we had access to a car - but once we did it was not an entirely smooth process. It was extremely humid that day - which would be typical Florida weather, but in the car it was excruciating. After realizing that the camera was going to have to be handheld for this scene, I attempted to adjust myself in the driver's seat and started practicing the motions I would need for the first scene. This proved to be very difficult as I would have to make sure each body motion was included in a short amount of time. On top of that, I also had to try and make the acting was as natural as possible. However, this was not the biggest of my worries. In order for me to fit into ...

Another Successful Day of Production

Image
Welcome back, everyone, to another production blog! Today, I'll be explaining how our second day of filming for the music video went. On Monday, November 28th, we filmed the park scenes - which were arguably the most difficult to record. While I was lucky enough for it to not have rained that day, the sun was relentless.  It was very hot that day and since I was unsure where to even lie in the grass to film the scene, I overheated very quickly. Nevertheless, we powered through and started by trying to film in the shade, but we quickly learned that the camera could not adjust to the lighting properly. So, I suggested to move to another spot where the sun shone better on the subject of the music video - me. After walking a few laps around the park, I found a spot to lie down in the grass right beside a bench. I had Yasmin stand on the bench to film the scene from a high angle directly above me. This took nearly an hour simply to properly film the scene as we had envisioned it. While ...

Our First Production Day for the Music Video

Image
Welcome back everyone, today I'll be telling you guys how the first filming day went for the music video. On Wednesday, November 23rd, Yasmin and I began our first filming day for production. I had prepared the tripod and camera the night before to make the filming day run smoother as I would not be the one working the camera. To do so, I had to ensure the camera was fully charged, that it properly fit onto the tripod, and that all the mechanics of the tripod were functioning as they should. Nevertheless, due to the fact that I was going to be the one being filmed in the music video, I had to quickly teach Yasmin what to loosen or tighten on the tripod in order to move the camera in different directions. We also examined what settings worked best for what lighting to see if it might make a difference. Once we both had a better understanding of how to properly hold and maneuver the camera, we filmed the bedroom scenes as depicted in the storyboard. The filming was rocky at first as ...
