The Editing Begins

Welcome back to production blog number 4! In my last blog, I discussed the final filming day for the music video. Which means that the next step was editing the clips.

To begin this process, the clips that we wanted to include in the final product had to be retrieved. Since there were multiple takes for the same scene, this meant we would have to watch through each and every recording to find the best version. With the scenes now chosen, I had to transfer them from the SD card to the computer. This proved difficult as my personal laptop doesn't have a slot that allows for SD cards to be read. As a result of this obstacle, the editing process was drawn out longer than it should have been, placing us slightly behind schedule. Nevertheless, I managed to borrow an SD card reader and began the transferring process. Moving them from the camera's folders to my own, I had to ensure each clip I had decided to include was correctly and safely transferred. A few times during this process, I transferred the wrong clips and had to fish for the correct scenes. I grew frustrated as I kept making this same mistake and eventually concluded that the smartest idea would be to transfer each clip and watch them from my laptop. From here, would I be able to find the best version of the recordings for that scene. I set this folder aside on my laptop once complete and began to search for which editing software I would use. I am comfortable with a few, so deciding which software to use did not take a toll on me. Ultimately, my choice came down to which software had the tools I would need to match my vision for the final product as much as possible. The software I used for the editing was Capcut, which also allowed me to use my phone on the app if my laptop was not working. This detail was important as I knew exporting and some other options would take longer on my laptop than on my phone. But, that's all for today, until next time!
