Our Final Product

Image
After a long production process, I am ecstatic to have completely finished this project. I believe I learned a lot, and even through the editing process noticed aspects I wish I had included or filmed beforehand. Nevertheless, I am glad I was able to learn and reflect even through the editing process. I'll definitely be talking to my group so we can continue to improve for future projects. I wonder what I will think about this commercial looking back on it in the future - hopefully I'll be able to film and edit better commercials by then. But, that's all for today. Until next time guys!

How Does Your Product Use or Challenge Conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Our product might challenge typical conventions as it does include the typical animated closeup of the gum pack at the end of the commercial. In most of the gum commercials that we reviewed, the final scene was a close-up shot of the gum pack in front of a green screen - often including animated movements as well. In our commercial, however, we decided to make the final close-up shot of the pack of gum recorded by hand. We did this for consistency so the commercial flowed. However, it also represents some common aspects found in the average gum commercial. A common theme in these advertisements is bringing together a social group or pair. They represent the common issue of facing obstacles when socializing and provide a solution through the gum, allowing the gum to represent common ground for all parties to come together on. In our commercial, we followed this theme by showing ...

What Video Editing For Our Commercial Looks Like

Image
Welcome back to yet another production blog guys! Today, I'm going to be telling you a little bit about what my group and I had in mind for the editing of the commercial. Andres and I are in charge of sharing the general video editing process,  though we have not begun yet. Either way, we have been discussing the planning of the process. For today's blog, I will be telling you about what I had in mind when it comes to editing the first three scenes of our commercial - which were referenced in our storyboard. For the first scene, the editing will primarily depend on which take we decide to use. For one of the takes, the text messages that appear on the character's phone screen may need to be edited to pop up above the phone so the audience understands what the character is viewing. However, there is also a take utilizing an over-the-shoulder shot, so this may not be needed. When it comes to transition from the first scene to the second scene, I was considering using a fade i...

A Little Update on Production

Image
Hi guys, welcome back! I wanted update you guys a little bit on how my group and I's production for the gum commercial has been going. It has been a slow process and week, so no further work has gotten done since the day of our filming. If I am being completely honest, I don't believe we have even went over the several takes we took for each scene. Instead, we have spent the week focusing on the other areas of our lives - or even other academic aspects of our lives. For example, I have been attempting to catch up on some assignments I missed and teaching myself how to complete my pre-calculus homework. I have also been studying for my AICE European History chapter quiz that will be taking place on Thursday. I even managed to find time to partially begin studying for PSAT's. With the abundance of work I have been receiving and completing, I have been far too exhausted to dedicate enough attention into beginning to edit the clips. Nevertheless, my group and I have begun disc...

Filming Blog: A Successful Mission in Las Olas

Welcome back to yet another blog post everyone! Today I want to tell you a little bit about our production process for the gum commercial. So, on Thursday, October 6th, my group and I were able to meet up after school to film the entirety of the commercial. We did not film the scenes in order because the designated locations of which we needed to film in were out of place. For example, the location at which scene three, four, five, and six were all filmed at was a closer distance than the location at which scenes one and two were filmed at. Prior to filming, we distributed props to get into character in order to begin filming the third scene. The parking lot at which we filmed at was entirely empty, so we were able to start filming right away without any issue. For scene three, we needed to get a wide shot from a low angle. After about 20 minutes of trial and error in trying to get the director into the correct position to film the shot, we were able to complete the recording of the fi...

What Goes Into Filming A Gum Commercial?

Image
Hello everybody, and welcome back to another post! Today, I want to tell you a little bit about the preparation that is going into filming and setting up to film our gum commercial. So far, it has been quite the rollercoaster and has definitely been an immersive process. However, I appreciate this aspect of the planning as I think it really helps us learn what is going to be included in our commercial and what purpose it serves. To give an idea of all the steps and preparation going into this commercial, I listed below everything from props to a backup plan regarding our filming of the commercial.  Props:  My group decided to film a commercial advertising Extra gum, so the gum will be our main prop. In the commercial, we are planning on having the gum bring together to photography students, so we will also need a digital camera and phones for the project portion, and a skateboard to add character to one of the actors. We will also have a boba drink in the opening scene to show...

How To Storyboard A Gum Commercial

Image
Hi guys, welcome back to another post! Today I'm going to be telling you a little bit about our storyboarding for the production of our Extra gum commercial. I'm super excited to film, but I first I had to make sure I had every scene roughly drafted and planned out. Here is an idea on how it's gonna go: First Scene - During the first scene, we will be filming Person A’s (Giulia’s) phone. On the phone, a thread of text messages from a photography teacher will be displayed. The shot will be from an over the shoulder angle as it is being used to share the information the person in the film is reading with the audience. The text messages will describe the location of which person A (Giulia) must meet with person B (Andres) in order to complete a photography project. It will give instructions on what actions they must take. Second scene - In the second scene, we will be filming at the location of which the two characters were instructed to meet - the location being the co...
