A Little Update on Production

 Hi guys, welcome back! I wanted update you guys a little bit on how my group and I's production for the gum commercial has been going. It has been a slow process and week, so no further work has gotten done since the day of our filming. If I am being completely honest, I don't believe we have even went over the several takes we took for each scene. Instead, we have spent the week focusing on the other areas of our lives - or even other academic aspects of our lives. For example, I have been attempting to catch up on some assignments I missed and teaching myself how to complete my pre-calculus homework. I have also been studying for my AICE European History chapter quiz that will be taking place on Thursday. I even managed to find time to partially begin studying for PSAT's. With the abundance of work I have been receiving and completing, I have been far too exhausted to dedicate enough attention into beginning to edit the clips. Nevertheless, my group and I have begun discussing what kind of music we may want to include and how the editing process may work. In doing so, we've managed to develop a pretty good idea of how we envision the commercial will look like at the end. However, academics have not been my sole focus these past few days. My school's homecoming dance is coming up soon and I have been desperately trying to understand the situation of purchasing a ticket. My original plan was to purchase the pre-sale ticket for $70, which is still quite a hefty price. But, they had  canceled selling tickets the day I was prepared to obtain a ticket, and the following day I had not brought money. With the pre-sale ended, I am a disappointed that I missed my opportunity to save an extra ten dollars, but I suppose it's not that big of a deal. Moreover, I am not entirely pleased with the theme that's been chosen for the homecoming dance, but it could have been worse. Overall, this has been quite the eventful week. I look forward to updating you all in my next post when I have begun or completed the editing process. Until next time everyone!

Our product might challenge typical conventions as it does include the typical animated closeup of the gum pack at the end of the commercial. In most of the gum commercials that we reviewed, the final scene was a close-up shot of the gum pack in front of a green screen - often including animated movements as well. In our commercial, however, we decided to make the final close-up shot of the pack of gum recorded by hand. We did this for consistency so the commercial flowed. However, it also represents some common aspects found in the average gum commercial. A common theme in these advertisements is bringing together a social group or pair. They represent the common issue of facing obstacles when socializing and provide a solution through the gum, allowing the gum to represent common ground for all parties to come together on. Filming Blog: Getting through the first scene

 Welcome back everyone! Today, I'll be telling you guys about my fourth day of production for this project. In my last blog, I talked about the final details of preparation that was taken prior to filming and  mentioned the first scene. For this production blog, however, I'll be talking about all the scenes we were able to film inside, which would be about half the scenes. As previously mentioned, scene 1 is stationed in the kitchen. I knew I had to be cutting some type of food on the cutting board, but I had to ensure it was easy to slice through and would not result in being a waste of food. I decided to use some fruit as I could hold the plum in my hand while cutting. This motion of simply cutting the fruit took a few tries to make it seem more natural, but once I got the hang of it, it became easy. The fruit even ended up being a snack for later! Ever Been Scared of Your Nanny?

  Hey guys, so the next step we took in researching our title was to watch an example of an opening sequence from a horror movie. We used the website Art of the Title and watched the opening sequence from the movie "Nanny." 1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequence? The titles displayed during the opening sequence were "Amazon Studios Presents," production companies, and "a film by" (producer). 2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? The images prioritized are of a woman laying down with a spider crawling on her face. The woman has her eyes closed for the majority of the time, until the very end when they fly open and she gasps. 3. What connotations do these images carry? The women lying down seems at first to be peaceful, however, the presence of the spider carries a negative connotation. Spider's are typically thought of as terrifying creatures and symbolize fear.
