Filming Blog: A Successful Mission in Las Olas

Welcome back to yet another blog post everyone! Today I want to tell you a little bit about our production process for the gum commercial. So, on Thursday, October 6th, my group and I were able to meet up after school to film the entirety of the commercial. We did not film the scenes in order because the designated locations of which we needed to film in were out of place. For example, the location at which scene three, four, five, and six were all filmed at was a closer distance than the location at which scenes one and two were filmed at. Prior to filming, we distributed props to get into character in order to begin filming the third scene. The parking lot at which we filmed at was entirely empty, so we were able to start filming right away without any issue. For scene three, we needed to get a wide shot from a low angle. After about 20 minutes of trial and error in trying to get the director into the correct position to film the shot, we were able to complete the recording of the first scene of the day. A couple cars, however, did need to pass through our spot a few times and we were quick to warn our director off the floor so she would not get hit. After filming scenes three, four, and five in this area without difficulty, we began our journey to Wilton's Creamery - stopping just across the street. At the corner of the building across the street, we filmed scene two. This scene required Andres to carry a skateboard as he walked and me to have my attention focused on my phone as if I were reading a text message. This was most likely one of the most complicated scenes to film because it required a pan that was placed at just the right moment and in just the right distance between one wall and the other. On top of that, I was standing directly in the sun for the entirety of this scene - causing me to overheat quickly. Nevertheless, the last scene was a breeze. We crossed the street yet again and entered Wilton's Creamery to purchase a few drinks before getting the final shot we needed to complete the commercial. I ordered some boba and this acted as one of our props in the first scene. With the filming of the commercial completed, we tidied up our area and collected our props before heading back to the school campus in order to be picked up to go home. Overall, I was proud that we were able to film each scene we needed to create the gum commercial in one sitting and look forward to editing the final product. Until next time my friends, I can't wait to tell you about our next adventure in the next post.
