Filming Blog: Preliminaries for filming
Hey everyone! Welcome back to another production blog. Today, my teammate and I picked out the setting and costume for the characters. I also got to filming some of the video, which I'll also cover later. So first, I decided to play the main character of the sequence and I wore a simple green t-shirt and baggy shorts with my hair a bit of a mess. This was done to give the feeling of a relaxed or unassuming character. This would make sense since the character was alone in their own home and was not expecting company. I didn't give much thought to the color of the shirt, but ensured to keep the clothing's colors neutral so they would give further appearance of blending in. The t-shirt was a darker, desaturated olive green and the shorts were black. In contrast, the killer - though only have been seen from the calves down - wore all black. This allowed the killer to stand out to the audience, but blend into the dark when in character. Additionally, dressing in all black typically has an intense or even malicious connotation to it which is then reinforced with context. With the costume officially decided, I shifted my focus to setting up for the first scene. The first scene was filmed at my house due to the fact that my kitchen had a wider walking space, allowing for more distance between the person and camera. The song that would play during this scene was already picked prior, so this was not difficult to set up on one of the phones for display. However, the decision was then between using an iPhone camera, or Camcorder. Ultimately, I decided to use my phone because the quality was better than that to the Camcorder because I knew how to work with my phone better. In this day, only the first scene was recorded and I only managed to get one option of the scene. Typically, we record 2-3 versions or so in case issues arise while editing and we have back-up footage. That's all for today though, until next time!
